Charlotte _3p - I think there shouldn't be a lot of zoos because all the animals in there are not a animal what would be tamed and they don't really have space in there little homes in the zoo so I think that there should be less zoos

Nilema 5F - I really enjoyed this lesson and I agree animals should not stay in zoos because they don't like to be stared at which can make them uncomfortable and they can also develop a sickness called zoochosis . zoochosis is a sickness which is when animals act strange for example they`re 10 times more sleep or they don't eat properly which is bad for their health. animals can get stressed out because they are separated from their friends and family which isn`t nice and also animals ( mostly 90 %) have been depressed due to the fact that they are squashed into a small cage which they can lose their habitat and instinct because usually animals run lots and hunt for food which gives them exercise but now they can`t because they don't have enough space!

Ayman 3P - I think more zoos because animals can attack people and run around the city without zoos. The animals can go safely into fences and it will be fine!

Laniya 3p - I think there should be more zoos because animals are important too . Even if they are animals they still should be treated nice like ,let's say like humans have hospitals and all the nurses help you . Also what will they do if their having babies, keeping them in the zoo protects them . What if their hurt how would they get better again is it like magic no and what if it was snowing how would they be protected. And did you know that animals can get taken away from their family and in the wild it can be dangerous because say if someone was cutting down trees then that can cause serous damage to the animals.

Elisabeth 5MC - I think that animals should be in zoos because many people enjoy seeing them and studying them which is mostly possible because of zoos. Some animals are endangered and zoos keep them safe from hunters or natural predators. Also some animals’ parents die or are killed and zoos look after them and raise them. On the other hand, some animals such as giant pandas, who are endangered, can die from being in captivity which would probably make them extinct. Animals are often more comfortable in their natural habitat.

Ms Gray - I believe that there is a place for zoos as without out them many people would not have the opportunity to see animals. Of course it would be better to see animals in there own habitat, but not everyone could afford that. Also I agree with some of the previous comments that zoos are important for the conservation of some species and so that we are able to learn more about them.

Halima 5M - I think zoos should be allowed because 1. some animals are being hunted by poachers and if they come into zoos the would be safe 2. if the have an illness they could come into a zoo and get better 3. because for educational reasons they should be kept in zoos because children who live in the city of London might not ever see a wild animal so they can come into zoos and learn about the animals instead of just staring at them while they walk.

Xiomara 5mc - I think that all animals should be kept it zoos because endangered species can get hunted by predators.Therefore, animals are safe and Children and other people can study and learn about different types of animals all around the world. However, animals do need their own space and privacy but it would be better if the animals are safe and being looked after by humans, we can help by taking care of them. Hunters and poachers can kill the animals and if they hurt the endangered species then it will be a possibility that they can go extinct. I think they should stay in zoos.

Miss Lucey - Zoos educate the public and foster an appreciation of the animals. This exposure and education could motivate people to protect the animals.
However, zoos cannot provide the amount of space animals have in the wild. Animal lives are not their own and they are prevented from fulfilling basic needs such as hunting, grazing, roaming, and developing important social structures.
Animals in captivity suffer from stress, boredom, and confinement.

Mr Dharma - I agree with the comments made as I too passionately believe that animals should roam free in their natural habitat. However, I also agree that our experience of learning about and preserving such amazing variety of species is a very valid point in favour of zoos. I would also like to mention the employment opportunities that zoos provide for many people from all cultures and backgrounds. A friend of mine, who started working as a volunteer in a zoo, has since spent most of his life working in a zoo and his daughter has recently completed her PHD in Zoology and plans to develop her career working in a zoo. I wonder how many human lives have been positively affected with employment opportunities in zoos.

Mr Logan - For Zoos - It allows humans to look after endangered animals and allows people the chance to see animals they would never be able to see in the wild.
Against zoos - Animals are not meant to be locked up behind bars, they're supposed to be free in the wild. How would you like it if you were locked behind bars and people stared at you all day; how would you feel?

miriam - I think animals should be kept in zoo because they could be hunted by hunters also I think animal should not be kept in zoo because they could be taken away from their family and they need their freedom

Anesi5M - I think there should be and shouldn't be zoos first because I feel like some species in the zoo are in a smaller space than others and I feel like they need more freedom for example a cheeter they need more space to run and exercise. But should be zoos because some animals have predators and hunters looking for them for example a rhino nearly all rhinos are going instinct so they need more protection and safety

Miss Phillips - I do not agree with zoos because I think that animals should not be kept in artificial environments. I do, however, agree with sanctuary's. These are places where injured or endangered animals can go but I think the intention is always to release back into the wild.

Mr. Fahy - Zoos are an important place to keep endangered species alive - if they are hunted in the wild or if they lose their habitats they may die off if zoos do not try to help. On the other hand, I think animals that are brought up in zoos would be unable to fend for themselves in the wild as they have lost their independence which I think is a shame.

Gustave - The practice of keeping animals in zoos has come under scrutiny within recent times with certain animal rights movement arguing that confining these animals to enclosures - irrespective of the dimensions of these enclosure is, is not a good thing to do as it restricts the movement of the animals which can result in a series of changes in their behaviour. Keeping animals in zoos, which can never adequately replace their natural habitat is harmful to them. The animals are forced to live in a manner that is not natural to them. They do not get the opportunity to develop in the same way as they would in the wild and some animals even lose their natural instincts. Quite apart from this, there is not enough living space within the confinements of zoos. This often results in an unhappy and restless animal. It is also true that, some animals do not thrive in zoos, they refuse to have babies. In my opinion, animals should live in freedom, because it is their natural habitat, as was intended for them. Moreover, animals in the zoos live under stress. The worst thing is that animals in the zoos, if they are ever released into the wild, they will never be able to exist in their natural habitat alone because they have not developed the necessary skills that they need to survive. Do we just want these animals in zoos for our own amusements and to view in our past time? Are we that selfish? Do we really care? We are doing these animals a disservice when we trap them in zoos and therefore I strongly believe that no animals should have to live in zoos.

Mrs Thomas - I agree with most of comments and believe animals should roam free in their natural habitat. However, one point in favour of zoos, many of us would never see some of these animals if they were not in zoos, there are no tigers in England for example. Zoos also help to preserve a species of animals by ensuring they are taken care of and do not become extinct.
Would be interesting to read if you think of any more positives.

Brian 5MC - I think that animals should remain in the zoo because if they were not in the zoo, we won't be able to study animals however, the animals need space and seeing humans again and again it would make them stressed and another.

Matilda 5F - Yes I think they should because animals bred in captivity won't know how to survive in the wild and so the may die out instantly!
On the other hand, some animals suffer from a mental illness called Zoochosis which is a term used to describe the stereotypical behaviour of animals in captivity!

Furthermore lots of people could learn about these animals.But then again lots of animals don't have there natural habitat and they need space to do things also they might be taken away and there family will be left alone.Also some of the zoo keepers could use force to make the animals do something.
