Year 4 - Science: How Sound Travels

In our Science lessons this term, Year 4 have been exploring sound and how sound travels. We have learned that sound is created by vibrations and travels in waves. During this lesson, we wanted to test how sound travels through different materials. We did this by attaching some string onto a metal, wooden and plastic hanger, wrapped the string around our fingers, placed the side of our fingers onto our ears and gently hit the hanger against the wall. We found out that sound travelled the best through the metal hanger. If you would like to try this experiment at home you can find it on YouTube.

"When hit the metal hanger against the wall it made a really cool sound! You should try it at home!" - Gabriel

"This experiment is so easy to do, I'm going to try it at home again" - Anesi

"I never knew that sound travels the best through metal, this experiment really helped me understand" - Dorina

Brian 4C - I liked when we had to hit the instruments on the wall because we could feel the vibrations

Bola 4C - I loved this lesson because I found the sounds weird and interesting!

Violett 1s - It looks very fun

Sherlomi 5M - Great experiment 4P!

Taylor-4p - The science lesson was so fun the mental hanger was definitely the loudest

Anesi 4P - The lesson was really fun and the metal one has the fastest sound wave.

Tanzela 4P - I really enjoyed the experiment because only you can hear the cool sound and nobody else.

Isabella 4P - I must agree that the metal hanger was the best one and the sound traveled the best through metal.

Maelle 4P - I really enjoyed experimenting how sound waves travel through different materials.

Angel 4P - this was so fun listening to different sounds with hangers
