Year 3 - Stone Age workshop at the Hackney Museum

Year 3 have been learning all about the Stone Age this term. During their visit to the Hackney museum, they got an insight into how Hackney was during the Stone Age era. They were able to have a touch of a range of artefact replicas including animal fur, flint tools and fossilised poop; they were fascinated by it all (especially the giant mammoth tooth!). They also learnt that one famous archaeologist, who goes by the name Worthington, was born and bread in Hackney in the 1880s! He discovered many Stone Age artefacts that we still have today.

Here is what some children have said about their visit to the Hackney Museum:

“It was such a fun day. Although I learnt lots about the Stone Age at school, it was interesting to see that archaeologists have found Stone Age artefacts in Upper Clapton and Stoke Newington! That is so close to where I live!” - Dominic

“I can’t believe how heavy the woolly mammoth tooth was. It probably weighed 3kg!” - Yahya

“It was one of the best trips I’ve been on because we got to touch all the different Stone Age objects and it just made me think of how hard life in the Stone Age must’ve been. I felt like I was really in the Stone Age” – Humza

“This workshop was brilliant because it’s always more interesting when you learn about the past of your local area.” - JJ
