Year 3 have been learning about Magnets and Forces. They learnt that magnets have north poles and south poles and that these attract each other. But two north poles will repel each other, as will two south poles.
In today's lesson, Year 3 learnt how to make a compass with a magnet and needle. They began by stroking the magnet along the needle by making sure it was being stroked in the same direction. They had to do this for 10mins. Finally, they put the needle onto a dish and then on to a bowl of water until the needle has found north.
Year 3 ended the lesson with a fun game of North, South, East and West.
If you want to try making your own compass, watch this video to learn how.
