Year 3 - Chocolate Crazy, Learning Had

Wow! What a choco-tastic day of learning with MASTER Chocolatier Derek Smith the Year 3's have enjoyed.  Where does the cocoa tree come from?  Who invented the chocolate bar?  What does a cocoa pod look and smell like?  These were just some of the amazing facts we explored prior to creating our own chocolate pizzas.  Master Chocolatier Del refreshed our scientific knowledge of changing states by challenging us to work out how to melt the chocolate and re-solidify it.  Next was the competition to create the most inventive chocolate pizza design, to be judged by MASTER Chocolate-consumer Mr Dharma.  In what was a tense and close fought affair, MASTER Dharma was proud to present the GOLD Wonka bars to the winning team - The Willy Wonkas.  We can't wait to begin our new learning journey next half term, when we focus on the geography of chocolate and Fair Trade.

Carmen - Fantastic job!! Not many of our kids know that the history behind chocolate as a special beverage started in Europe when cocoa beans where brought by Spanish "explorers" such Hernan Cortez during their travelling around south and central America. Ecuador, Brasil and many other Latin American countries still produce and export cocoa! Next time you are having a very delicious desert that it has chocolate on it, there is a 95% that it was made with the very best cocoa beans from Latin America!!
