Judy 3P - Hi on chapter 1 that description of the homely garden really took me back to a moment in my life when I visited my grandparents house and walked into their garden.
Amir's mum - Personally, I loved the book and it was so fun hearing about floella's life.
Mr - Very good
Amir's mum - Wow, very nice book Floella and here family have achieved their goals although the different challenges and barriers that faced them.
Miss Tracey - Wow that was an amazing book I'm just soo happy that floella and her family achieved soo much and that they did not let ignorant peoples judgement and prejudice stand in there way the last chapter did bring me too tears ??but not for sadness they were happy tears Mr Logan I too used to watch play school and play away as a child I loved them very much and now I've listened and read floella story about coming to England I will cherish my memories more of watching her because seeing her shows you can do anything or be anything you want in life dont let anything or nonell no one say otherwise I will recommend this book to be read I'm going to purchase my own copy so I could read again THANK YOU SOO MUCH MR LOGAN FOR SHARING I felt like me and floella shared alot of things .Mr Logan I'm quite jealous that you had the chance to meet floella Benjamin and Humpty dumpty ..I feel abit sad now I have no story to read and listen too ? well done to Floella and her family???❤
Mr Logan - Thank you to all who listened, and a massive thank you to Miss Tracey and Miss Yasmin for commenting throughout. Everyone needs encouragement, even head teachers!
Katie, Amir (and mum), Elliot, Farheem (?), and Audrey I hope you enjoyed the book/Floella Benjamin’s story and acquired some new knowledge along the way.
Monday 22nd June will be ‘Windrush Day’ I’d encourage you to share this story with anyone you think would like to learn more about the Windrush generation. Or, you could simply recommend it to anyone who just enjoys a great story where the protagonist (main character) overcomes great challenges to achieve success!
Miss Yasmin - The last chapter was amazing. My heart was dancing with joy as she was performing on stage, and came to the realisation that people had accepted her as as a person and were not just seeing her colour. It was quite emotional but uplifting at the same time. I was soo happy for her.
Floella and her siblings have achieved so much, Marmie would be bursting with pride... ❤️
Miss Yasmin - Mr. Logan, I’m in a state of shock right now. Really and truly. The penny dropped when her face was finally exposed after the camera finally made its way up and settled on her face (and yours!). Turns out I knew Floella all along, I was just not aware that FLOELLA in this story was the SAME Floella I had seen present many children’s programs over the years...How lovely that you’ve also had the privilege of meeting her. What is she like in person? I’m sure she’s a wonderful lady...
Miss Tracey - I have really enjoyed this book sharing some experiences floella had as a child seeing the challenges her and her family had to go through cant wait for the final chapter
Miss Yasmin - Mr Logan, I have already recommended it to others and I plan to buy my own hard copy, so I can lend it to others to enjoy. I will also forward it, I did think of this idea before. Thank you for reading it to the Daubeney Family, it was a pleasure listening to it and going on this journey with this delightful little girl. I am very much looking forward to the final chapter! ?
Miss Tracey - Chapter 13 was good made me happy that hardie for to do his jazz music and Marnie girls her licence I know all bout su su *partner as I used to do one with my friends who are from Grenada and Barbados it is a great way of putting money away as a kid I remember the red rover passes and as miss Yasmin said it's good to see floella and family having happy times even though they are constantly receiving racism
Mr Logan - Miss Yasmin, it’s good to see that you’re enjoying the story. Please recommend it or forward it to others to enjoy too. It was a pleasure to read it to my Daubeney family. I hope you’re looking forward to the final chapter.
Miss Yasmin - Oh Floella! ???♀️I cannot believe she punched poor Norman and gave him a black eye for kissing her.?? But she explained her reasons and it was down to the sudden shock of the whole situation, and punching him was her genuine reaction.??♀️I think Norman knew this too, as he seemed to forgive her and wanted to be her friend. If you ask me, I would say Norman had a secret crush on Floella...?❤️
Miss Yasmin - In chapter 13 I was glad to learn dardi’s dream of becoming a jazz musician had come true. I was very happy when Marmie got her driver’s licence and had bought a car too. ? I also really liked the idea of a ‘su su.’ What a clever way to raise some extra money for everyone involved!
It was nice to hear that Floella and her family were able to have some fun times and Floella was making some fond memories, although they were constantly on the receiving end of racism.
Miss Tracey - Coming to England is such a lovely book thank you mr Logan for reading it daubeney family I encourage you to read it floella says in chapter 12 how she liked to learn about where other people are from and bout there beliefs and culture .I also as a child loved finding out about my friends culture religion and beliefs that's why now i know a fair bit about other cultures i enjoy celebrating with my friends on special occasions such as EID OR DIWALI GREEK EASTER CARNIVAL ITS AMAZING EATING SOME AMAZING FOOD I LOVE CURRY GOAT RICE AND PEAS CHICKEN VINDALOO PILAU RICE GALIIUCASSEY (GREEK CASSEROLE). Cant wait for chapter 13 I hope the big move brings happiness to floella and family
Miss Tracey - Another great chapter I really felt sad for floella and her siblings England was not what they thought it would be when floella was being bullied in school about her colour it really upset me it brought back some unhappy childhood memories for me I too was bullied and outcasted in school ?? I WAS CALLED UGLY ,FOUR EYES TEACHERS PET it made me very sad that I didn't like going too school .I DONT SHARE THIS INFORMATION ABOUT MYSELF REALLY BUT READING AND LISTENING TO FLOELLA STORY IT FELT LIKE IT WAS ME??
Miss Yasmin - I really feel for Floella. I just wish I could give her a hug and tell her it was all going to be ok. But will it be? England for Floella is turning out to be cold in so many ways. I feel anxious about what will happen in the next few chapters. I feel protective of her but as a reader, all I can do is read on and hope for the best. ?
Mr Logan - Miss Yasmin it’s nice to see you’re enjoying and making connections with the book.
I wonder if anyone else is making any connections?
Please continue to enjoy the story.
It will conclude this Friday at chapter 15.
Miss Yasmin - Chapters 10 and 11 have taken a different turn for Floella. I was sad for her when first impressions of England were not at as she had imagined. Thank goodness for Marmie as yet again, she managed to lift Floella’s spirts. Marmie’s cooking abilities had not changed, which helped give Floella a sense of security and optimism.
Similarly, when Floella’s experiences at her new school in England were not of the nicest, it was Marmie and her amazing way of in stilling strength and courage in her daughter that helped her to deal with a very confusing situation.
Floella’s Marmie reminds me of my mine.
Miss Tracey - Wow chapter 10 was good floella and her siblings had alot to take in things were alot different in England to back home in Trinidad I think floella and her siblings were happy but also sad I think they were expecting things to be like in Trinidad I hope they find happiness in England it will take time
Miss Tracey - Another great chapter I was soo happy when floella and her siblings arrived at England and see there marmie for the first time after 15 months I'm missing my mum due to lockdown and this virus I haven't seen her since Jan/Feb thankfully I chat to her every day on the phone. I hope floella and her family have a happy time in England. They will be sad at times as they have left memories back in Trinidad
Miss Yasmin - Oh what joy! I’m so happy that Floella and her siblings have been reunited with their marmie. Floella is over the moon, and so am I! ???
Miss Tracey - Thank you Mr Logan looking forward to chapter 9
Miss Yasmin - Floella is on her way to England! She and her 3 siblings are having quite an adventure and making memories as they travel on the ship. ? I wonder what’s in store for them in the UK. ??♀️ I don’t know what’s given me more pleasure; the fact that they no longer have to live with their (not so nice) carers, or the fact that they will see their dad and beloved mum after 15 months. ? I think I would describe Floella’s feelings as ‘bitter sweet’ as she is sad to be saying goodbye to her homeland, the place she grew up in, and has fond memories of, yet very she is very happy that she will be reunited with her whole family once again. ❤️
Mr Logan - It’s good to see you’re enjoying the story.
Happy belated birthday by the way Miss Tracey.
Miss Tracey - Floella story of coming to England is very good I'm really enjoying it and sharing some experiences that I have had too I dont know how she coped with that journey because I dont think I could as I also suffer from seasickness I once went to France on a ferry and was sick the whole journey whilst a friend watched over my 2 eldest boys ?I hope floella and family enjoy life in England cant wait to find out
Miss Tracey - Chapter 6 was quite deep it was sad too hear what floella and her siblings had to do through at such a young age being separated from her dardie first then her marmie and younger siblings to England her home life change soo much but I feel floella character is strong minded and faces every challenge that is thrown at her in her own little way listening to Marnie song brought a little ?to my eye I hope floella gets her wishes come true and we have a happy ending
Audrey 4M - I enjoyed listening to your story Mr Logan it’s really fun just to listen to it??
Miss Yasmin - I wait eagerly to listen to the rest of this story, and hope chapters 6 and 7 will be uploaded at the same time. ??
Miss Tracey - Wow chapter 5 I can relate to alot my mum used to be a 'sallyAnn' which is a person who worshipped with the salvation army when she was young she used to sing and play the tambourine both me and my mum used to be Sunday school teachers my mum used to worship at The London city mission with my nan which is Methodist and I was at church of England I read bible stories to children like floella I've been to a hindu temple for diwali when i used to nanny a little girl called Heena i was 18years old it was a lovely experience seeing all the different gods and lights and offerings people had brought i had to remove my shoes and cover my head before i entered i really enjoyed chapter 5 I'm enjoying this book thank you mr Logan for reading it In chapter 6 foella is going to be told about coming to England i think shes gonna have mixed feelings eg scared and excited cant wait to read and listen
Mr Logan - Hi Elliot, it’s good to know that you’re listening to the story. What do you like about the story so far?
Farheem, are you listening too?
Miss Yasmin - 3 more chapters uploaded, yay!! I love Floella’s ability to transport the reader into a different place through amazing descriptive detail of incidents and surroundings. Colours, smells, sounds, scenery and her thoughts combined gives me the sense of being there with her. I can almost feel the warmth of the sun and taste the amazing foods she describes. It reminds me of when my parents took me to visit my country of origin; Bangladesh. I was very young, about 5 or 6 but I remember it vividly. It was my first visit there. Bangladesh also has a monsoon climate, so when it rains, it RAINS, and when the sun shines, there is no hiding from it! I also experienced a little tremor while I was there and remember being very frightened. I had never experienced an earthquake in my life. Like Floella’s mum, my mum comforted me and told me not to be scared. I did not understand fully what a tremor was until a few years later, when we learnt about earthquakes in Geography lessons. There are lots of other similarities with my experiences in Bangladesh on that visit, with Floella’s childhood memories in Trinidad, too many to mention!
Trinidad seems like a wonderful county, like Miss Tracey, I would love to go there one day ?
Amir's mum - Nice story Mr Logan thank you for reading it .
Miss Tracey - I enjoyed chapter 4 cant wait for chapter 5
Katie 3P - I really enjoyed chapter 1. I can not wait to watch chapter 2 & 3!
Miss Tracey - Mr logan I thought the celebration might have been the christening and I was right I remember being told about simillar stories bout the schooling in Trindad how it was alot different to how schools were like here .I cant wait for chapter 4 I think floella is gonna face some changes cant wait to see if I'm right . Listening to the story has made me really fancy some Caribbean food so I'm going to cook jerk chicken tonight rice and salad got to see if I can get some pepper sauce cos I like my pepper ?
Mr Logan - It’s good to know that at least Miss Yasmin and Miss Tracey are watching/listening to this story! I’m certain there are many others too. I hope you’re enjoying it so far. Miss Tracey certainly made a connection with chapter 1. We’re you able to make any connections with Floella’s ‘Life in Trinidad’?
Miss Tracey - I enjoyed listening to the story cant wait for chapter 2 my best friends mum was from Trinidad and listening to the story it felt like her telling me things about her child hood I miss her soo much she used to cook some lovely food fish curry, stewed chicken dahl puri ?? one day I would like to go Trinidad
Miss Yasmin - I’m so glad Faheem and Katie asked Mr. Logan to read this book. I thoroughly enjoyed chapter 1 and can’t wait for chapter 2! I wonder how life changes for Floella and her siblings once they arrive in England...Floella’s life seems so happy and carefree in Trinadad. I hope she is just as happy in England, but I have a feeling England will be very different to Trinidad...
