Music - Summer Term 2022

It was a great year of skateboards, ukuleles, djembes, recorders with lots more in between. We enjoyed and celebrated our interschool concert with guest bands from Ickburgh, a local special needs school and also a band from Rushmore. Alongside this we often had our outdoor jam on a Friday lunchtime and Monday morning at the school gates live and acoustic.

Summer 2 is a very busy term packed full of memory making events. We had two trips to the Round Chapel for the Hackney Music Service Festival. Also the City Year talent show did a great job of bringing light to new music stars at Daubeney.

We had our heart warming and inspiring “It takes a village” concert where alongside excellent guest speakers, the school rock band played a medley of songs and we had our choir sing with gusto and passion, led by Kari Stewart.

A new addition to our music team; we have now had three music technology workshops with the amazing Matt Harding.

The music technology workshops with Mr. Harding have opened the children’s awareness to the sounds all around us. We look forward to working with Mr. Harding again in the new school year.

This year at Daubeney has been all about outdoor play and learning. Skateboarding at Daubeney has flourished thanks to the guidance of Simon from Young Hackney and also the skills of Mr. Gavin and Mr. Matvad. How is music linked to skateboarding? A workshop with Mr. Harding will show you how.

The highlight of the year by far was our trip into central London to sing with a professional acapella group. It was a relief to have a proper school trip as we were so long in lock down.

Thanks to the children who took part and all the parents, staff and helpers who made it happen.

See you for more next year,

Mr. O ‘ Flynn
