Children enjoyed listening to the story “Puzzle Monkey” and learning about the different jungle animals and their habitats. With adult support, they matched each animal to its name and recognised the story characters, using sounds like e for elephant and m for monkey.
The activity was extended through phonics, where pupils matched initial sounds to each jungle animal.
Pupils also traced the animals’ names to develop handwriting and letter formation. As part of early reading comprehension, children matched each animal’s name to the correct picture by showing their understanding of the vocabulary and characters from the story.
