Our Autumn Book Fortnight was a great success! The whole school focused on the book ‘Welcome’ by Barroux. The children enjoyed the story and discussed issues such as global warming and immigration. Each class from reception to Year 6 had the opportunity to do a range of activities including art and role play to bring the story alive. They then used this as a stimulus to write a variety of genres including leaflets, posters, speech bubbles, captions and narratives.
Maelle in 5M said "I enjoyed the book especially when everyone was welcomed to live with the polar bears."
‘If you're using a car to literally go around the corner you should walk as it is better for the environment and also healthier for you. Car fumes are helping to harm the planet." - Amari 3G
Lexi in 3T said "I really loved the book because it made us think about lots of important things like being kind to those in need and the importance of looking after the planet. If we don't stop global warming the ice caps will melt and the poor polar bears won't have anywhere to live!"
‘I enjoyed the story even though it was a picture book because it had an important message for both children and adults.’ - Hussain 6F
