Black History Month 2017

Black History Month is celebrated annually for the remembrance of important people and events in the history of the African heritage. During the month of October, this is a time when communities and schools give special attention to learning about the contributions and history of black people. When children learn about the historical accomplishments and struggles of the black race everyone benefits. When children connect with history, they gain a better understanding of themselves no matter what the colour of their skin is, plus they learn to develop compassion for other people.

In the spirit of honouring Black pioneers and landmark events in black history, during the month of October the pupils at Daubeney will be engaged in activities that capture their senses and motivate them to learn more about the contributions of black people. Whether reading books, listening to music or dancing, there are plenty of fun ways for our pupils to learn about Black culture. To learn the ABCs of Black history take a look at these:

How many of these people can you recognise?
