On the 23 April many countries across the world celebrated the International Day of the Book, organized by the UNESCO to promote reading and to honour the authors Miguel de Cervantes and William Shakespeare who died on this date. This year, we commemorate 400 years since their death and we celebrated this special anniversary with our KS2 pupils. We made them familiar with this commemoration and we introduced them to Miguel de Cervantes (the most celebrated Spanish author) and his most famous work, the novel Don Quixote de la Mancha. We read some extracts from this book both in English and in Spanish and we watched an extract from an animation film in Spanish.
