Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL)

Introduction to OPAL

OPAL stands for Outdoor Play and Learning and is a programme endorsed and supported by Sport England.

OPAL's mission statement is "To ensure that every schoolchild has an amazing playtime every day with no exceptions."

We aim to:

  • improve well-being
  • develop self-regulation
  • increase physical activity
  • aid social and emotional development
  • learn to manage risk
  • have FUN!

This programme is a journey that we're undertaking over the next 12-18 months with OPAL, developing the playground and play of the children.

You can watch a video of what we want play to look like at our school.

If you have any of these items, please bring them to school (Blue donation boxes near the gates) or call and let us know where we can collect them from.

Please bring to the main office any time!

Thank you in advance!

Stay and Play

We love inviting you into our playground to play with your children and would like you to join us on this journey of developing our playground on Wednesday 1st December (3:30pm – 4:30pm)

Please collect your child as usual and come into the playground to experience the activities available during your child’s playtime.

The OPAL play team (and Junior play team!) will be on hand to talk about ideas for our playground and receive your suggestions.

We would like to purchase some additional storage for our playground so we can have a larger variety of items available for the children to play with. We'll soon be launching a donation page for anyone that would like to help. Stay tuned...

OPAL News and Letters

Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL) Primary Programme

Did you know that playtime is about 20% of every child's day at school? That's 1.4 years of every child’s life while they are at primary school. It is also, for many children, the only time they have to play outside regularly.
